Esabelle Chen

Apprentice

Esabelle Chen was born in Taiwan and trained at Canada’s National Ballet School before joining The National Ballet of Canada as an Apprentice in 2010.

During her training, Ms. Chen performed in Serenade, La Sylphide, an original work titled 30-Minute Beauty Makeover by Matjash Mrozewski, La Bayadère with the Dutch National Ballet and a soloist role in George Balanchine’s Who Cares? Ms. Chen’s favourite role is Black Swan in James Kudelka’s Swan Lake.

In 2009, Ms. Chen received the Peter Dwyer Award.

Why I became a dancer:
“My mother put me in class when I was three and by the time I was nine I had fallen in love with ballet and decided it was what I wanted to do.”
